Tuesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time

Reading 1 - Hebrews 2.5-12

God did not subject the world to come, of which we speak, to angels.
But one has somewhere testified, saying,
“What is man, that you think of him?
Or the son of man, that you care for him?
You made him a little lower than the angels.
You crowned him with glory and honor.
You have put all things in subjection under his feet.”

For since he subjected all things to him, he left nothing that is not subject to him.
But now we do not see all things subjected to him, yet.
but we see him who has been made for a little while lower than the angels (Jesus),
crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death,
that by the grace of God he should taste death for everyone.

For it was fitting for him, for whom and through whom are all things,
in bringing many children to glory,
to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
For both he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one.
For this reason he is not ashamed to call them brothers saying:
“I will declare your name to my brothers.
In the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.”

Responsorial – Psalm 8.2ab+5, 6-7, 8-9 Resp. 7

R. You make your Son ruler over the works of your hands.

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth,
What is man, that you think of him?
What is the son of man, that you care for him?

R. You make your Son ruler over the works of your hands.

For you have made him a little lower than the gods,
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You make him ruler over the works of your hands.
You have put all things under his feet.

R. You make your Son ruler over the works of your hands.

All sheep and cattle,
yes, and the animals of the field,
The birds of the sky, the fish of the sea,
and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

R. You make your Son ruler over the works of your hands.

Gospel – Mark 1.21-28

Jesus and his disciples went into Capernaum,
and immediately on the Sabbath
he entered the synagogue and taught.
They were astonished at his teaching,
for he taught them with authority,
and not as the scribes.
Immediately there was in their synagogue
a man with an unclean spirit,
and he cried out saying,
“What do you have to do with us , Jesus of Nazareth?
Have you come to destroy us?
I know you who you are: the Holy One of God!”
Jesus rebuked him, saying,
“Be quiet, and come out of him!”
The unclean spirit,
convulsing him and crying with a loud voice,
came out of him.
They were all amazed,
so that they asked one another, saying,
“What is this? A new teaching?
For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him!”
The report of him went out immediately everywhere in all the region of Galilee.

Reading 1 – Ephesians 1.15-23

Brothers and sisters:
Having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which is among you,
and the love which you have toward all the saints,
I do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers.
May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.
May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened
that you may know what is the hope of his calling,
and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
and what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe,
according to that working of the strength of his might which he worked in Christ,
when he raised him from the dead, and made him sit at his right hand
in the heavenly places, far above all rule, and authority, and power, and dominion,
and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come.
He put all things in subjection under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things
for the Church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Responsorial – Psalm 8.2-3ab, 4-5, 6-7 Resp. 7

R. You make your Son ruler over the works of your hands.

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth,
who has set your glory above the heavens!
From the lips of babes and infants
you have established praise because of your adversaries.

R. You make your Son ruler over the works of your hands.
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have ordained;
what is man, that you think of him?
What is the son of man, that you care for him?

R. You make your Son ruler over the works of your hands.

For you have made him a little lower than the gods,
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You make him ruler over the works of your hands.
You have put all things under his feet.

R. You make your Son ruler over the works of your hands.

Gospel – Luke 12.8-12

Jesus said to his disciples:
“I tell you, everyone who confesses me before humans,
the Son of Human will also confess before the angels of God,
but they who deny me in the presence of humans
will be denied in the presence of the angels of God.
Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Human will be forgiven,
but those who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
When they bring you before the synagogues, the rulers, and the authorities,
do not be anxious how or what you will answer, or what you will say,
for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that same hour what you must say.”

Easter Thursday.

Reading 1 – Acts 3.11-26

As the crippled man who was healed
held onto Peter and John,
all the people ran together to them
in the porch that is called Solomon’s porch
greatly amazed.

When Peter saw it, he responded to the people,
“You men of Israel, why do you marvel at this one?
Why do you fasten your eyes on us,
as though by our own power or godliness
we had made him walk?
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
the God of our fathers,
has glorified his servant
Jesus, whom you delivered up
and denied in the presence of Pilate,
when he had determined to release him.
But you denied the Holy and Righteous One
and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,
and killed the Prince of life,
whom God raised from the dead,
to which we are witnesses.

By faith in his name,
this one has been made strong through his name;
you see and know him.
Yes, the faith which is through him
has given him this perfect health
in the presence of you all.

Now, brothers and sisters,
I know that you did this in ignorance,
as did also your rulers.
But the things which God announced
by the mouth of all his prophets,
that Christ should suffer,
he thus fulfilled.
Reconsider therefore, and turn again,
that your sins may be blotted out,
so that there may come times of refreshing
from the presence of the Lord,
and that he may send Christ Jesus,
who was ordained for you before,
whom heaven must receive
until the time of restoration of all things,
of which God spoke long ago
through the mouth of his holy prophets.

For Moses said, “The Lord God will raise up
a prophet for you
from among your brothers, like me.
You shall listen to him
in all things whatever he says to you.
It will be that every soul
that will not listen to that prophet
who will be
utterly destroyed from among the people.”

Yes, and all the prophets from Samuel
and those who followed after,
as many as have spoken,
they also told of these days.
You are the sons and daughters of the prophets
and of the covenant which God
made with our fathers, saying to Abraham,
“In your seed will all the families of the earth be blessed.”
God, having raised up his servant,
sent him to you first, to bless you,
in turning away everyone
of you from your wickedness.”

Responsorial – Psalm 8.2ab+5, 6-7, 8-9 Resp. 2ab

R. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. or R. Alleluia

Gospel – Luke 24.35-48

The disciples of Jesus
related the things that happened
along the way,
and how he was recognized by them
in the breaking of the bread.

As they said these things,
Jesus himself stood among them,
and said to them, “Peace be to you.”
But they were terrified and filled with fear,
and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
He said to them, “Why are you troubled?
Why do doubts arise in your hearts?
See my hands and my feet, that it is truly me.
Touch me and see,
for a spirit does not have flesh and bones,
as you see that I have.”
When he had said this,
he showed them his hands and his feet.

While they still did not believe for joy
and wondered, he said to them,
“Do you have anything here to eat?”
They gave him a piece of a broiled fish.
He took it and ate in front of them.

He said to them, “This is what I told you,
while I was still with you,
that all things which are written
in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms,
concerning me must be fulfilled.”

Then he opened their minds,
that they might understand the Scriptures.
He said to them, “Thus it is written,
and thus it was necessary
for the Christ to suffer
and to rise from the dead on the third day,
and that reconsideration
and remission of sins
should be preached
in his name to all the nations,
beginning at Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things.
