Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Reading 1 - Zechariah 9.9-10
Thus says the LORD:
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout out, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king comes to you!
He is righteous, and having salvation,
lowly, and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim,
and the horse from Jerusalem,
and the battle bow will be cut off,
and he will speak peace to the nations,
and his dominion will be from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth.
Responsorial – Psalm 145.1-2, 8-9, 10-11, 13-14 Resp. 1
R. Lord, I will bless your name forever, my King and my God. or R. Alleluia!
I will exalt you, my God, the King.
I will praise your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you,
and I will praise your name forever; yea, forever and ever.
R. Lord, I will bless your name forever, my King and my God. or R. Alleluia!
The Lord is gracious, merciful,
slow to anger, and of great loving kindness.
The Lord is good to all.
His tender mercies are upon all his works.
R. Lord, I will bless your name forever, my King and my God. or R. Alleluia!
Let all your works, O Lord, praise you,
and let your holy ones bless you.
They will speak of the glory of your kingdom:
and tell of your power.
R. Lord, I will bless your name forever, my King and my God. or R. Alleluia!
The Lord is faithful in all his words,
and loving in all his deeds.
The Lord upholds all who fall,
and raises up all those who are bowed down.
R. Lord, I will bless your name forever, my King and my God. or R. Alleluia!
Reading 2 – Romans 8.9, 11-13
Brothers and sisters:
You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwells in you.
But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they are not his.
If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you,
he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead
will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit who dwells in you.
So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
For if you live according to the flesh, you must die,
but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Gospel – Matthew 11.25-30
At that time, Jesus answered,
“I declare to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.
Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.
All things have been delivered to me by my Father.
No one knows the Son, except the Father;
nor does anyone know the Father, except the Son and anyone to whom the Son desires to reveal him.
Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart,
and you will find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Reading 1 – Micah 5.1-4a
The LORD says:
You, Bethlehem-Ephrathah,
too small to be among the clans of Judah,
from you one will come for me
who is to be ruler in Israel;
whose origins are from of old,
from ancient times.
Therefore the Lord will abandon them
until the time when she who is in labor gives birth.
Then the rest of his brothers will return to the children of Israel.
He shall stand, and shall shepherd in the strength of the Lord,
in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God:
and they will remain, for then he will be great
even to the ends of the earth.
He shall be peace.
Or Romans 8.28-30
Brothers and sisters:
We know that all things work together for good for those who love God,
to those who are called according to his purpose.
For those whom he foreknew, he also predestined
to be conformed to the image of his Son,
that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Those whom he predestined, he also called.
Those whom he called, he also justified.
Those whom he justified, he also glorified.
Responsorial – Psalm 13:6ab, 6c Resp. Isaiah 61:10
R. I will greatly rejoice in the Lord.
I trust in your loving kindness;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
R. I will greatly rejoice in the Lord.
I will sing to the Lord, because he has been good to me.
R. I will greatly rejoice in the Lord.

Reading 1 – Deuteronomy 4.32-34, 39-40
Moses said to the people:
Ask now of the days of old,
which were before you,
since the day that God
created man on the earth,
ask from the one end of the sky to the other,
whether there has been anything like this great thing,
or has its like even been heard of?
Did a people ever hear the voice of God
speaking out of the middle of the fire,
as you have heard, and live?
Or has a god tried to go
and take a nation for himself
from among another nation,
by trials, by signs, by wonders,
by war, by a mighty hand,
by an outstretched arm,
and by great terrors,
as all that the Lord your God
did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
Know therefore this day,
and lay it to your heart,
that the Lord is God
in heaven above and on the earth beneath.
There is no one else.
You shall keep his statutes, and his commandments,
which I command you this day,
that it may go well with you,
and with your children after you,
and that you may prolong your days in the land,
which the Lord your God gives you, forever.
Responsorial – Psalm 33.4-5, 6, 9, 18-19, 20+22 Resp. 12b
R. Blessed is the people whom the Lord has chosen for his own.
The word of the Lord is right.
All his work is done in faithfulness.
He loves righteousness and justice.
The earth is full of the loving kindness of the Lord.
R. Blessed is the people whom the Lord has chosen for his own.
By the Word of the Lord, the heavens were made;
all their host by the breath of his mouth.
For he spoke, and it was done.
He commanded, and it stood firm.
R. Blessed is the people whom the Lord has chosen for his own.
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,
on those who hope in his loving kindness;
to deliver their soul from death,
to keep them alive in famine.
R. Blessed is the people whom the Lord has chosen for his own.
Our soul has waited for the Lord.
He is our help and our shield.
Let your loving kindness be on us, O Lord,
since we have hoped in you.
R. Blessed is the people whom the Lord has chosen for his own.
Reading 2 – Romans 8.14-17
Brothers and sisters:
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,
are sons and daughters of God.
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery
to fall back in fear,
but you received the Spirit of adoption,
by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit
that we are children of God;
and if children, then heirs;
heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ;
if indeed we suffer with him,
that we may also be glorified with him.
Gospel – Matthew 28.16-20
The eleven disciples went into Galilee,
to the mountain where Jesus had sent them.
When they saw him,
they worshipped him but doubted.
Jesus came and spoke to them, saying,
“All authority has been given to me
in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them
in the name of the Father
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe
all that I commanded you.
Behold, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age.”

Pentecost Sunday Vigil -
Official Translation
(I will clean up these readings later tonight, but I just wanted to get them out now.)
Reading 1 – Genesis 11.1-9
1 The whole earth was of one language and of one speech. 2 As they traveled east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they lived there. 3 They said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar. 4 They said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.”
5 the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built. 6 the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do. 7 Come, let’s go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” 8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city. 9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth. From there, the Lord scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.
Or Exodus 19.3-8a, 16-20b
Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him out of the mountain, saying, “This is what you shall tell the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 4 ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to myself. 5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine; 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”
7 Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which the Lord commanded him. 8 All the people answered together, and said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do.”
Or Ezekiel 37.1-14
1 The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out in the Lord’s Spirit, and set me down in the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones. 2 He caused me to pass by them all around: and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and behold, they were very dry. 3 He said to me, Son of man, can these bones live? I answered, Lord the Lord, you know. 4 Again he said to me, Prophesy over these bones, and tell them, you dry bones, hear the Lord’s word. 5 Thus says the Lord the Lord to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. 6 I will lay sinews on you, and will bring up flesh on you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the Lord. 7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold, an earthquake; and the bones came together, bone to its bone. 8 I saw, and, behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh came up, and skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them. 9 Then he said to me, Prophesy to the wind, prophesy, son of man, and tell the wind, Thus says the Lord the Lord: Come from the four winds, breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live. 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up on their feet, an exceedingly great army. 11 Then he said to me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are clean cut off. 12 Therefore prophesy, and tell them, Thus says the Lord the Lord: Behold, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, my people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel. 13 You shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves, and caused you to come up out of your graves, my people. 14 I will put my Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land: and you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it, says the Lord.
Or Joel 3.1-5
Thus says the LORD:
1 “For, behold, in those days,
and in that time,
when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
2 I will gather all nations,
and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat;
and I will execute judgment on them there for my people,
and for my heritage, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations.
They have divided my land,
3 and have cast lots for my people,
and have given a boy for a prostitute,
and sold a girl for wine, that they may drink.
4 “Yes, and what are you to me, Tyre, and Sidon,
and all the regions of Philistia?
Will you repay me?
And if you repay me,
I will swiftly and speedily return your repayment on your own head.
5 Because you have taken my silver and my gold,
and have carried my finest treasures into your temples,
Responsorial – Psalm 104.1-2, 24+35b, 27-28, 29b+30 Resp. 30
R. Lord, send out your Spirit; renew the face of the earth. or R. Alleluia!
Bless the Lord, my soul.
Lord, my God, you are very great.
You are clothed with honor and majesty;
covered with light as with a garment.
R. Lord, send out your Spirit; renew the face of the earth. or R. Alleluia!
O Lord, how many are your works!
In wisdom have you made them all.
The earth is full of your riches.
Bless the Lord, my soul! Alleluia.
R. Lord, send out your Spirit; renew the face of the earth. or R. Alleluia!
These all wait for you,
that you may give them their food in due season.
You give to them; they gather.
You open your hand; they are satisfied with good.
R. Lord, send out your Spirit; renew the face of the earth. or R. Alleluia!
You take away their breath: they die,
and return to the dust.
You send out your Spirit and they are created.
You renew the face of the earth.
R. Lord, send out your Spirit; renew the face of the earth. or R. Alleluia!
Reading 2 – Romans 8.22-27
Brothers and sisters:
For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now. 23 Not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for adoption, the redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in hope, but hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for that which he sees? 25 But if we hope for that which we don’t see, we wait for it with patience. 26 In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered. 27 He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit’s mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God.
Gospel – John 7.37-39
The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38 Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, “What are you looking for?”
They said to him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), “where are you staying?”
39 He said to them, “Come, and see.”
They came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.

1 “For, behold, in those days,
and in that time,
when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
2 I will gather all nations,
and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat;
and I will execute judgment on them there for my people,
and for my heritage, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations.
You are clothed with honor and majesty;
covered with light as with a garment.

Reading 1 - Genesis 22.1-2, 9a, 10-13, 15-18
God tested Abraham
and said to him, “Abraham!”
He said, “Here I am.”
God said,
“Take your son, your only son,
whom you love, Isaac himself,
and go into the land of Moriah.
Offer him there as a burnt offering
on one of the mountains
which I will point out to you.”
When they came to the place
which God had pointed out to him,
Abraham built the altar there,
and laid the wood in order,
Then Abraham stretched out his hand,
and took the knife to kill his son.
The Lord’s angel called to him from heaven
and said, “Abraham, Abraham!”
He said, “Here I am.”
He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy,
nor do anything to him.
For now I know that you fear God,
since you have not withheld
your son, your only son, from me.”
Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked and saw
that behind him was a ram
caught in the thicket by his horns.
Abraham went and took the ram,
and offered it up for a burnt offering
instead of his son.
The Lord’s angel called to Abraham
a second time from heaven,
and said, “I have sworn by myself, says the Lord,
because you have done this thing,
and have not withheld your son, your only son,
that I will bless you greatly,
and I will multiply your seed greatly
like the stars of the heavens,
and like the sand which is on the seashore.
Your seed will possess the gate of his enemies.
All the nations of the earth
will be blessed by your seed,
because you have obeyed my voice.”
Responsorial – Psalm 116.10, 15, 16-17, 18-19 Resp. 9
R. I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
I believed though I said,
“I am greatly afflicted.”
Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his saints.
R. I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
O Lord, truly I am your servant.
I am your servant, the son of your handmaid.
You have freed me from my chains.
I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving,
and will call on the name of the Lord.
R. I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
I will pay my vows to the Lord,
yes, in the presence of all his people,
in the courts of the Lord’s house,
in your midst Jerusalem.
R. I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living.

Brothers and sisters:
If God is for us, who can be against us?
He who did not spare his own Son,
but delivered him up for us all,
how could he not also
freely give us everything with him?
Who could bring a charge
against God’s chosen ones?
It is God who justifies,
who will condemn?
It is Christ who died,
or rather,
who was raised from the dead,
who is at the right hand of God,
who even makes intercession for us.
Gospel – Mark 9.2-10
Jesus took with him
Peter, James, and John,
and brought them up onto
a high mountain
privately by themselves,
and he was transfigured in front of them.
His clothing became glistening,
exceedingly white, like snow,
such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
Elijah and Moses appeared to them,
and they were talking with Jesus.
Peter answered Jesus,
“Rabbi, it is good for us to be here.
Let us make three tents:
one for you,
one for Moses,
and one for Elijah.”
For he did not know what to say,
for they were very afraid.
A cloud came, overshadowing them,
and a voice came out of the cloud,
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
Suddenly looking around,
they saw no one with them anymore,
except Jesus only.
As they were coming
down from the mountain,
he commanded them
that they should tell no one
what things they had seen,
until after the Son of Human
had risen from the dead.
They kept this saying to themselves,
wondering what rising from the dead meant.
