1 Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them. 4 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak. 5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under the sky. 6 When this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were bewildered, because everyone heard them speaking in his own language. 7 They were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Behold, aren’t all these who speak Galileans? 8 How do we hear, everyone in our own native language? 9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, 10 Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabians: we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!”

For as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all given to drink into one Spirit.

When therefore it was evening, on that day,

where the disciples were assembled,
for fear of the Jews,
Jesus came and stood in the middle,
and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
When he had said this,
he showed them his hands and his side.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.”
When he had said this,
he breathed on them, and said to them,
“Receive the Holy Spirit!
Whosoever’s sins you forgive, are forgiven them.
Whosoever’s you retain are retained.”

“When the Paraclete has come,

On the day of Pentecost, Peter said to the Jews,
“Let all the house of Israel
therefore know for certain
that God has made him both Lord and Christ,
this Jesus whom you crucified.”
Now when they heard this,
they were cut to the heart,
and said to Peter and the rest of the Apostles,
“Brothers, what shall we do?”
Peter said to them,
“Repent, and be baptized, every one of you,
in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins,
and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For the promise is to you, and to your children,
and to all who are far off,
and all those, however many,
that the Lord our God will call to himself.”
With many other words he testified,
and exhorted them, saying,
“Save yourselves from this corrupt kind!”
Then those who gladly received his word were baptized.
There were added that day about three thousand souls.

“Because they have taken away my Lord,
and I do not know where they have laid him.”

and did not know that it was Jesus.
Jesus said to her,
“Woman, why are you weeping?
Who are you looking for?”
She, supposing him to be the gardener,
said to him,
“Sir, if you have carried him away,

She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabboni!”
which means, “Teacher!”

This one, being delivered up
by the determined counsel
and foreknowledge of God,
you killed, crucified by the lawless.
God raised him up,
having freed him from the agony of death,
because it was impossible that he should be held by it.
For David says concerning him,
I saw the Lord always before my face,
He is on my right hand; I shall not be moved.
Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced.
Moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope;
because you will not leave my soul in Sheol,
nor will you allow your Holy One to see decay.
You made known to me the paths of life.
You will make me full of joy in your presence.’
“Brothers, I may tell you confidently
of the patriarch David,
that he both died and was buried,
and his tomb is with us to this day.
Therefore he was a prophet,
knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him
that of the fruit of his body according to the flesh,
he would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne.
Foreseeing this, he spoke about the resurrection of the Christ,
that neither was his soul left in Sheol, nor did his flesh see decay.
This Jesus, God raised up, to which we all are witnesses.
Being therefore exalted by the right hand of God,
and having received from the Father

Then Jesus said to them,
“Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers
that they should go into Galilee, and there they will see me.”
Now while they were going,
behold, some of the guards came into the city,
and told the chief priests
all the things that had happened.
When they had assembled with the elders,
and had taken counsel,
they gave a large amount of silver to the soldiers, saying,
“Say ‘His disciples came by night,
and stole him away while we slept.’
If this comes to the governor’s ears,
we will persuade him and keep you out of trouble.”
So they took the money and did as they were told.
This saying was spread abroad among the Jews
and continues until this day.
