Reading 1 - Wisdom 2:23-3:9
For God created the human as an immortal,
and in the image of his own likeness he made him.
However, by the envy of the devil, death came into the world,
and the ones who taste it are those being part of that one.
But the souls of the just are in the hand of God,
and no torment shall touch them.
They seemed, in the sight of the foolish, to die.
Their departure was reckoned an abuse,
and their going away from us, an affliction,
but they are at peace.
And though in the sight of humans they suffered torments,
their hope is full of immortality.
In a few ways, afflicted;
in many ways, well-rewarded,
because God has tried them,
and found them worthy of himself.
As gold in the furnace he has proved them,
and as a sacrificial victim he has received them.
They will shine in their time, they will be respected.
They will fly to and fro like sparks in the weeds.
They shall judge nations and rule over people,
and their Lord shall reign forever.
Those who trust in him, shall understand the truth,
and the faithful in love shall rest in him,
since grace and peace are given to his elect.

She anticipates those who desire her,

Therefore, to think about her is the consummation of perception,
and the one who is awake because of her,
will quickly be secure.
For she goes about seeking such as are worthy of her,
and she graciously reveals herself to them in the ways,

will not precede those who sleep.
For the Lord himself, with a shout,
with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God
will come down from heaven

In the middle of the night, there was a shout:

However, the wise said, “Definitely not!
There is not enough for us and for you.
Instead, go to the sellers and purchase some.”
But while they were gone shopping, the bridegroom came,

went in with him to the wedding feast,

but he answered saying,
“Amen I say to you, I do not know you.”

Brothers and Sisters:
None of us lives by themself; and no one dies by themself,
for if we live, we live with the Lord,
and if we die, we die with the Lord.
Whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.
For this Christ died and came back to life:
that he would be Lord of both the dead and the living.
So why do you judge your brother?
Or why do you even despise your brother?
For we all will stand before the judgment seat of God.
For it is written:
“I live”, says the Lord, “so to me every knee will bend,
and every tongue praise God.”

Now the tax collectors and sinners, draw near to Jesus, heard him,
and the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying,
“This man welcomes sinners, and eats with them.”
So he told them this parable, saying:
Which of you humans, having one hundred sheep, and losing one of them,
would not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness,
and go after that the lost one until you find it,
and when you find it, put it on your shoulders, rejoicing,
and, coming home, call together your friends and neighbors,
saying to them, “Rejoice with me, because I have found my lost sheep”?
I say to you that, just so, there shall be more joy in heaven
for one sinner who reconsiders,
than for ninety-nine righteous ones
who have no use for reconsideration.
Or which woman, having ten dollars [drachmas],
if she were to lose one dollar,
would not light a lamp and search the house
and look carefully until she found it,
and, having found it, call together her friends and neighbors, saying,
“Rejoice with me, because I have found the dollar which I lost.”
Just so, I say to you,
there will be joy in the sight of the angels of God
upon one sinner reconsidering.

Brothers and Sisters:
None of us lives by themself; and no one dies by themself,
for if we live, we live with the Lord,
and if we die, we die with the Lord.
Whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.
For this Christ died and came back to life:

So why do you judge your brother?

For we all will stand before the judgment seat of God.
