Feast of Saint Philip and Saint James, Apostles

Official Translation

Reading 1 – 1 Corinthians 15.1-8

Now I declare to you, brothers and sisters,
the Gospel which I preached to you,
which also you received,
in which you also stand,
by which you are saved,
if you hold firmly the word which I preached to you
—unless you believed in vain.

For I delivered to you first of all
that which I also received:
that Christ died for our sins
according to the Scriptures,
that he was buried,
that he was raised on the third day
according to the Scriptures,
and that he appeared to Kephas,
then to the Twelve.
Then he appeared to over
five hundred brothers at once,
most of whom remain until now,
though some have fallen asleep.
Then he appeared to James,
then to all the apostles,
and last of all,
as to a preemie,
he appeared to me also.

Responsorial – Psalm 19.2-3, 4-5 Resp. 5

R. Their sound has gone forth through all the earth. or R. Alleluia!

The heavens show forth the glory of God,
and the firmament declares the work of his hands.
Day to day utters speech,
and night to night shows knowledge.

R. Their sound has gone forth through all the earth. or R. Alleluia!

There are no speeches nor languages,
in which their voices are not heard.
Their sound has gone forth through all the earth,
and their words unto the ends of the world.

R. Their sound has gone forth through all the earth. or R. Alleluia!

Gospel – John 14.6-14

Jesus said to Thomas,
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father
except through me.
If you had known me,
you would have known my Father also.
From now on,
you know him, and have seen him.”

Philip said to him,
“Lord, show us the Father
and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus said to him,
“Have I been with you such a long time,
and do you not know me, Philip?
He who has seen me has seen the Father.
How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’
Do you not believe that I am in the Father,
and the Father in me?

The words that I tell you,
I speak not from myself;
but the Father who lives in me
does his works.
Believe me that I am in the Father,
and the Father in me;
or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

Amen, amen, I tell you,
they who believe in me,
the works that I do, they will do also;
and they will do greater works than these,
because I am going to my Father.
Whatever you will ask in my name,
that will I do,
that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it.
