Reading 1 – Deuteronomy 4.32-34, 39-40
Moses said to the people:
Ask now of the days of old,
which were before you,
since the day that God
created man on the earth,
ask from the one end of the sky to the other,
whether there has been anything like this great thing,
or has its like even been heard of?
Did a people ever hear the voice of God
speaking out of the middle of the fire,
as you have heard, and live?
Or has a god tried to go
and take a nation for himself
from among another nation,
by trials, by signs, by wonders,
by war, by a mighty hand,
by an outstretched arm,
and by great terrors,
as all that the Lord your God
did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
Know therefore this day,
and lay it to your heart,
that the Lord is God
in heaven above and on the earth beneath.
There is no one else.
You shall keep his statutes, and his commandments,
which I command you this day,
that it may go well with you,
and with your children after you,
and that you may prolong your days in the land,
which the Lord your God gives you, forever.
Responsorial – Psalm 33.4-5, 6, 9, 18-19, 20+22 Resp. 12b
R. Blessed is the people whom the Lord has chosen for his own.
The word of the Lord is right.
All his work is done in faithfulness.
He loves righteousness and justice.
The earth is full of the loving kindness of the Lord.
R. Blessed is the people whom the Lord has chosen for his own.
By the Word of the Lord, the heavens were made;
all their host by the breath of his mouth.
For he spoke, and it was done.
He commanded, and it stood firm.
R. Blessed is the people whom the Lord has chosen for his own.
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,
on those who hope in his loving kindness;
to deliver their soul from death,
to keep them alive in famine.
R. Blessed is the people whom the Lord has chosen for his own.
Our soul has waited for the Lord.
He is our help and our shield.
Let your loving kindness be on us, O Lord,
since we have hoped in you.
R. Blessed is the people whom the Lord has chosen for his own.
Reading 2 – Romans 8.14-17
Brothers and sisters:
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,
are sons and daughters of God.
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery
to fall back in fear,
but you received the Spirit of adoption,
by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit
that we are children of God;
and if children, then heirs;
heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ;
if indeed we suffer with him,
that we may also be glorified with him.
Gospel – Matthew 28.16-20
The eleven disciples went into Galilee,
to the mountain where Jesus had sent them.
When they saw him,
they worshipped him but doubted.
Jesus came and spoke to them, saying,
“All authority has been given to me
in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them
in the name of the Father
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe
all that I commanded you.
Behold, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age.”
