Friday of the Thirty-second Week in Ordinary Time (II)

Official Translation

Reading 1 – 2 John 1.4-9

Chosen Lady,
I rejoice greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth,
as we have been commanded by the Father.
Now I beg you, dear lady, not as though I wrote to you a new commandment,
but that which we had from the beginning: let us love one another.
This is love, that we should walk according to his commandments.
This is the commandment, even as you heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

For many deceivers have gone out into the world.
Those who do not confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh is the deceiver and the Antichrist.
Watch yourselves, lest we lose what we have accomplished rather than receive a full reward.
Whoever transgresses and does not remain in the teaching of Christ, does not have God.
They who remain in the teaching have both the Father and the Son.

Responsorial – Psalm 119.1, 2, 10, 11, 17, 18 Resp. 1b

R. Blessed are those who walk according to the Lord’s law.

Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,
who walk according to the law of the Lord.

R. Blessed are those who walk according to the Lord’s law.

Blessed are those who keep his statutes,
who seek him with their whole heart.

R. Blessed are those who walk according to the Lord’s law.

With my whole heart, I have sought you.
Do not let me wander from your commandments.

R. Blessed are those who walk according to the Lord’s law.

I have hidden your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.

R. Blessed are those who walk according to the Lord’s law.

Do good to your servant. I will live,
and I will obey your word.

R. Blessed are those who walk according to the Lord’s law.

Open my eyes, that I may see
the wonders from your law.

R. Blessed are those who walk according to the Lord’s law.

Gospel – Luke 17.26-37

Jesus said to his disciples:
“As it came to pass in the days of Noah, so it will also be in the days of the Son of human:
They ate; they drank; they married; they were given in marriage,
until the day that Noah went into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

Likewise it came to pass, in the days of Lot:
They ate; they drank; they bought; they sold; they planted; they built.
Then on the day Lot left Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

Accordingly, it will be so on the day when the Son of human is revealed.
On that day, there will be someone on the house and their goods in the house.
Let them not go down to get them.
And it is the same with someone in the field: they should not turn around to go back.
Remember Lot's wife!
If someone seeks to preserve their life, they will lose it, and anyone who loses it will produce it.

I say to you, on that night there shall be two upon one bed:
the one guy will be taken, and the other guy will be left.
Two will be together grinding grains:
the one lady will be taken and the other lady will be left.”
And answering they said to him: “Where, Lord?”
And he said to them, “Wherever the body is, the vultures gather there.”
