Reading 1 – Jeremiah 30.1-2, 12-15, 18-22
The word came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
“Thus speaks the Lord, the God of Israel, saying,
Write all the words that I have spoken to you in a book.
Your hurt is incurable.
Your wound is grievous.
There is no one to plead your cause,
no medicine for your wound,
no healing for you.
All your lovers have forgotten you;
they do not seek you:
for I have wounded you
as an enemy would wound you,
with the chastisement of a cruel one,
for the greatness of your iniquity,
because your sins were increased.
Why do you cry for your hurt?
Your pain is incurable:
for the greatness of your iniquity,
because your sins were increased,
I have done these things to you.
The Lord says:
Behold, I will restore the future of Jacob’s tents,
and have compassion on his dwelling places,
and the city shall be built on its own hill,
and the palace shall be inhabited as it was.
Out of them shall proceed thanksgiving
and the voice of those who make merry.
I will multiply them, and they shall not be few;
I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.
Their children shall be as before,
and their congregation shall be established before me,
and I will punish all who oppress them.
Their prince shall be of themselves,
and their ruler shall proceed from among them,
and I will cause him to draw near,
and he shall approach me:
for who is he who has had boldness to approach to me?
says the Lord.
You shall be my people, and I will be your God.

Jesus made the disciples get into the boat,
and to go ahead of him to the other side,
while he sent the crowds away.
After he had sent the crowds away,
he went up the mountain by himself to pray.
When evening had come, he was there alone.
But the boat was now many kilometers offshore,
distressed by the waves, for the wind was against them.
In the fourth watch of the night,
Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.
When the disciples saw him walking on the sea,
they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!”
and they cried out for fear.
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying
“Take courage! I am! Be not afraid.”
Peter answered him and said,
“Lord, if you are,
command me to come to you on the waters.”
He said, “Come!”
Peter stepped down from the boat,
and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.
But when he saw that the wind was strong,
he was afraid and beginning to sink.
He cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand,
took hold of him, and said to him,
“You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
When they got up into the boat,
the wind ceased.
Those who were in the boat
came and worshiped him, saying,
“You are truly the Son of God!”
When they had crossed over,
they came to the land of Gennesaret.
When the people of that place recognized him,
they sent word to all that surrounding region,
and brought to him all who were sick,
and they begged him that they might
merely touch the fringe of his garment.
As many as touched it were made whole.

‘At evening you shall eat meat,

do not diminish a word.
It may be that they will listen,
and turn every man from his evil way;
that I may repent of the evil
which I intend to do to them
because of the evil of their actions.
You shall tell them that the Lord says
If you will not listen to me,
to walk in my law, which I have set before you,
to listen to the words of my servants the prophets,
whom I send to you,
urgently sending them to you,
though you have not listened;
then I will make this house like Shiloh,
and will make this city a curse
to all the nations of the earth.
The priests and the prophets and all the people
heard Jeremiah speaking
these words in the Lord’s house.
When Jeremiah had made an end
of speaking all that the Lord
had commanded him to speak to all the people,
the priests and the prophets and all the people
seized him, saying, “You shall surely die.”

and his brothers, James, Joses, Simon, and Judas?
Are not all of his sisters with us?
Where then did he get all this?”
They took offense at him.
Jesus said to them,
“A prophet is not without honor,
except in his own country,
and in his own house.”
He did not do many mighty works there
because of their unbelief.
Reading 1 – Jeremiah 26.1-9
In the beginning of the reign
of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah,
this word from the Lord came, saying,
“the Lord says:
Stand in the court of the Lord’s house,
and speak to all the cities of Judah,
which come to worship in the Lord’s house,
all the words that I command you to speak to them;
do not diminish a word.
It may be that they will listen,
and turn every man from his evil way;
that I may repent of the evil
which I intend to do to them
because of the evil of their actions.
You shall tell them that the Lord says
If you will not listen to me,
to walk in my law, which I have set before you,
to listen to the words of my servants the prophets,
whom I send to you,
urgently sending them to you,
though you have not listened;
then I will make this house like Shiloh,
and will make this city a curse
to all the nations of the earth.
The priests and the prophets and all the people
heard Jeremiah speaking
these words in the Lord’s house.
When Jeremiah had made an end
of speaking all that the Lord
had commanded him to speak to all the people,
the priests and the prophets and all the people
seized him, saying, “You shall surely die.”
Why have you prophesied in the Lord’s name, saying,
‘This house shall be like Shiloh,
and this city shall be desolate,
without inhabitant?’
All the people gathered around Jeremiah
in the Lord’s house.

Then the Lord’s word came to me, saying,
“House of Israel, can I not
do with you as this potter does? says the Lord.
Behold, as the clay in the potter’s hand,
so are you in my hand, house of Israel.”

He said to them, “Therefore every scribe
who has been made a disciple
in the Kingdom of Heaven
is like a human who heads up a house,
who brings out of their pantry both new and old.”
When Jesus had finished these parables,
he departed from there.

and the rejoicing of my heart:
for I am called by your name,
O Lord, God of Hosts.
I did not sit in the assembly
of those who make merry, nor rejoiced;
I sat alone because of your hand;
for you have filled me with indignation.
Why is my pain perpetual
and my wound incurable,
which refuses to be healed?
Will you indeed be to me as a deceitful brook,
like waters that fail?
Therefore the Lord says,
“If you return, then I will bring you back again,
that you may stand before me,
and if you take out the precious from the vile,
you shall be as my mouth.
They shall return to you,
but you shall not return to them.
I will make you to this people
a fortified bronze wall,
and they shall fight against you,
but they shall not prevail against you;
for I am with you
to save you and to deliver you, says the Lord.
I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked,
