Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord (B)

Official Translation

Reading 1 – Daniel 7.9-10, 13-14

I watched until thrones were placed,
and the Ancient of Days sat down.
His garment was white as snow,
and the hair of his head like clean wool.
His throne was like flames of fire,
and the wheels of it like a burning fire.
A swift stream of fire issued forth from before him.
Thousands upon thousands ministered to him,
and a myriad of myriads stood before him.
The court sat in judgment,
and the books were opened.

I beheld therefore in the vision of the night,
and lo, one like a son of man came
with the clouds of heaven,
and he came even to the Ancient of Days,
and they presented him before him.
He gave him power, and glory, and a kingdom.
All peoples, tribes and tongues shall serve him.
His power is an everlasting power
that shall not be taken away,
and his kingdom shall not be destroyed.

Responsorial – Psalm 97.1-2, 5-6, 9 Resp. (1a+9a)

R. O Lord, you reign Most High above all the earth.

The Lord reigns! Let the earth rejoice!
Let the multitude of islands be glad!
Clouds and darkness are around him.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

R. O Lord, you reign Most High above all the earth.

The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
The heavens declare his righteousness.
All the peoples have seen his glory.

R. O Lord, you reign Most High above all the earth.

For you, O Lord, are most high above all the earth.
You are exalted far above all gods.

R. O Lord, you reign Most High above all the earth.

Reading 2 – 2 Peter 1.16-19

Beloved:
For we did not follow cunningly devised fables,
when we made known to you
the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,
but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
For he received from God the Father honor and glory,
when the voice came to him from the majestic glory,
“This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
We heard this voice come out of heaven
when we were with him on the holy mountain.

We also have the word of prophecy, which is completely reliable,
and you do well that you heed it,
as to a lamp shining in a dark place,
until the day dawns, and the morning star rises in your hearts.

Gospel – Mark 9.2-10

Jesus took with him
Peter, James, and John,
and brought them up onto
a high mountain
privately by themselves,
and he was transfigured in front of them.

His clothing became glistening,
exceedingly white, like snow,
such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
Elijah and Moses appeared to them,
and they were talking with Jesus.
Peter answered Jesus,
“Rabbi, it is good for us to be here.
Let us make three tents:
one for you,
one for Moses,
and one for Elijah.”
For he did not know what to say,
for they were very afraid.

A cloud came, overshadowing them,
and a voice came out of the cloud,
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
Suddenly looking around,
they saw no one with them anymore,
except Jesus only.

As they were coming
down from the mountain,
he commanded them
that they should tell no one
what things they had seen,
until after the Son of Human
had risen from the dead.
They kept this saying to themselves,
wondering what rising from the dead meant.
