Reading 1 - Wisdom 6.12-16
Bright and unfading is wisdom,
and easily seen by those who love her,
and found by those who seek her.
She anticipates those who desire her,
that she may first reveal herself to them.
The one who is awake for her at dawn,
will not be troubled,
for they will find her sitting at their door.
Therefore, to think about her is the consummation of perception,
and the one who is awake because of her,
will quickly be secure.
For she goes about seeking such as are worthy of her,
and she graciously reveals herself to them in the ways,
and meets them with all providence.
Responsorial - Psalm 63.2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 Resp. 63.2b
R. For you my soul has thirsted, O Lord
O God, my God, to thee do I watch at break of day.
For you my soul has thirsted; for you my flesh yearns.
Like an exhausted desert land, where there is no water.
R. For you my soul has thirsted, O Lord
So I have come before you in the Sanctuary,
to see your power and your glory,
for your mercy is better than life.
My lips shall praise you.
R. For you my soul has thirsted, O Lord
Thus I will bless you all my life long,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
Let my soul be filled as with rich foods,
and my mouth shall praise you with joyful lips.
R. For you my soul has thirsted, O Lord
I have remembered you in my bed,
and I will meditate on you in the early morning,
because you were my helper,
and I will rejoice under the cover of your wings:
Reading 2 - 1 Thessalonians 4.13-18 or 13-14
We do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers and sisters,
about those who have fallen asleep,
so that you will not weep like the others who have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
so also God will, through Jesus,
take to himself those who have fallen asleep.
For we say this to you in the word of the Lord:
that we who live,
remaining in the presence of the Lord,
will not precede those who sleep.
For the Lord himself, with a shout,
with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God
will come down from heaven
and the dead in Christ will rise first.
Then we the living, the remaining,
at one time with them be taken up in the clouds
into a meeting with the Lord in the air.
So we will all be with the Lord.
Therefore, encourage one another with these words.
Gospel - Matthew 25.1-13
Jesus said to his disciples:
Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins,
who, taking their own lamps, went out to meet the bridegroom.
Now, five of them were foolish and five wise.
For the foolish ones, having taken their lamps,
did not take oil with them,
but the wise took oil in their bottles with their own lamps.
But the bridegroom being delayed, they all were drowsy and fell asleep.
In the middle of the night, there was a shout:
“Behold the bridegroom! Go forth to meet him!”
Then all those virgins arose and prepared their lamps.
The foolish said to the wise,
“Give us some of your oil, for our lamps have run out.”
However, the wise said, “Definitely not!
There is not enough for us and for you.
Instead, go to the sellers and purchase some.”
But while they were gone shopping, the bridegroom came,
and those who were ready
went in with him to the wedding feast,
and the door was shut.
Finally, the other virgins came, saying,
“Lord, Lord, open up for us”,
but he answered saying,
“Amen I say to you, I do not know you.”
Stay awake, therefore,
because you do not know the day nor the hour.
