Monday of the Thirty-Second Week in Ordinary Time (I)

Official Translation

Reading 1 - Wisdom 1.1-7

Love justice,
you who judge the earth.
Think of the Lord in goodness,
and seek him in simplicity of heart.
For he is found
by those who do not test him,
and he shows himself
to those who have faith in him.

For perverse thoughts distance one from God,
and his strength, when it is tried,
rebukes the foolish.
Since wisdom will not enter into a malicious soul,
nor dwell in a body subject to sins.
For the Holy Spirit of discipline
will flee from the deceitful,
and will withdraw himself from
thoughts that are without understanding,
and he will rebuke iniquity when it comes.

For the spirit of wisdom is caring,
and will not free someone who blasphemes with their lips.
For God is witness of their kidneys [inmost being],
and he is a true searcher of their heart,
and a listener to their tongue.
For the Spirit of the Lord has filled society,
and hold all together;
he has knowledge of each voice.

Responsorial - Psalm 139.1b-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-10 Resp. 24b

R. Lead me, Lord, in the eternal way.

Lord, you have tested me and known me;
you know my sitting down and my rising up.
You understood my thoughts afar off;
my repast and my busying you have searched out.
And you have understood all my ways.
R. Lead me, Lord, in the eternal way.

The speech is not on my tongue.
Behold, O Lord, you have known all things,
Before and after, you have formed me,
and have laid your hand upon me.
The knowledge is above me:
it is high, and I cannot reach it.

R. Lead me, Lord, in the eternal way.

To where shall I go from your spirit,
and where shall I flee from your face?
If I ascend into heaven, you are there.
If I descend into Sheol, you are present.

R. Lead me, Lord, in the eternal way.

If I take my wings early in the morning,
and dwell at the end of the sea,
even there your hand leads me,
your right hand would hold me.

R. Lead me, Lord, in the eternal way.

Gospel - Luke 17.1-6

Jesus said to his disciples:
“It is impossible that scandals should not come:
but woe to him through whom they do come.
It would be better for him if a stone were hung around his neck
and he were cast into the sea,
than that he would scandalize one of these little ones.

Watch yourselves!
If your brother or sister sins against you,
reprove them: and if they reconsider, forgive them.
And if they sin against you seven times a day,
and seven times turn to you,
saying, “I have reconsidered”, forgive them.”

And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith”,
and the Lord said,
“If you had faith like a mustard seed,
you might say to this mulberry tree,
‘be rooted up, and be transplanted into the sea’
and it would obey you.”
