Saturday of the Thirty-Second Week in Ordinary Time (I)

Official Translation

Reading 1 – Wisdom 18.14-16; 19.6-9

While all things were in quiet silence,
and the night was halfway through her course,
Your almighty word leapt down from heaven,
from your royal throne,
as a fierce conqueror into the midst of the land of destruction.
With a sharp sword carrying your unfeigned commandment,
he stood and filled all things with death,
and standing on the earth reached even to heaven.

For every creature according to its kind
was fashioned again as from the beginning,
obeying your commandments,
that your children might be kept unharmed.
For a cloud overshadowed their camp,
and where water was before, dry land appeared,
and in the Red Sea, a way without hindrance,
and out of the great deep, a flowering field:
through which all the nation passed,
protected by your hand,
seeing your miracles and wonders.
For they grazed like horses and skipped like lambs,
praising you, O Lord, who had delivered them.

Gospel – Luke 18.1-8

Jesus told a parable to his disciples,
that they ought always to pray and not lose heart, saying:
“There was a judge in a certain city, who neither feared God nor regarded human.
And there was a certain widow in that city, and she came to him, saying,
‘Give me justice from my adversary.’
And he would not for a long time,but afterwards he said within himself,
‘Although I neither fear God nor regard human,
yet because this widow is troublesome to me, I will give her justice,
so that her coming does not wear me out in the end.’”

The Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge says.
Will not God give justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night?
Will he be long-suffering over them?
I say to you, that he will quickly give them justice.
Yet the Son of Human, when he comes, will he find faith on earth?
